Maggot debridement therapy is the introduction of live and disinfected fly larvae in a wound order to aid cleaning healing. This technique was discovered as beneficial effect colonization human tissue by (myiasis). discovery made during World War I when it observed that injured soldiers whose wounds were infested with maggots healed faster than their counterparts free from maggots. In this therapy, Blow (Lucilia sericata) are used because they feed exclusively on dead tissues. There two different ways through which these applied into wound, namely, range dressing biobag dressing. The mechanism action involves secretion digestive enzymes breakdown tissues, liquidizing before ingesting liquefied contents wound. They also secrete antimicrobials inhibit microbial growth thereby disinfecting it. has been successfully treatment leg ulcers, deep diabetic humans. advantages maggot enormous. cost using relatively low, quickens healing wounds, painless. However, patient may experience irritation itching at site associated larval movement adoption therapeutic management advocated practical evidence show proven effective more conventional medical practices.
